The North American Landscape in Art
This is a virtual exhibit that serves as a guide to understanding
landscape art through outstanding examples. The theme is that humans are
profoundly affected by the landscapes we inhabit. The landscape art in
this exhibition reflects the natural environment but also our history,
our industries, our cultures and our belief systems. Provided by the Smithsonian
Institution in collaboration with similar organizations in Canada and Mexico.
Posters
American Style
This exhibition brings together some of the great graphic images
made in the United States over the past century. It serves as a guide to
American poster art as it explores the process of making the messages of
commerce, propaganda, and patriotism evident through a visual medium. One
fascinating aspect of American posters is the way they reflect, magnify,
and even alter American culture. Provided by the Smithsonian Institution.
The
White House Collection of American Crafts
This exhibition serves as a guide and handbook to American crafts
based on several types of materials they are made with. The materials are:
ceramics, fiber, glass metal and wood. These are covered in separate sections,
which include images (with descriptions) of works by well know craftspeople.
Short biographical information is given for each of the craftspersons whose
work is featured. Includes brief audio and video comments by the curator
of the exhibit. Provided by the Smithsonian Institution.
