The Mary Rose Virtual Maritime Museum
Built on the orders of Henry VIII between 1510 and 1511. After a long and successful period of service she sank accidentally during an engagement with the French fleet in the Solent in 1545. Her rediscovery and raising were one of the seminal events in the history of nautical archaeology.

The On-line Books Page
This is the front page for an index of hundreds of on-line books. It also points to some common repositories of on-line books and other documents.

The Oxford Text Archive
Contains a vast number of texts and documents from the great writers of the English language. Not very easy to use, so please look carefully at the pages for their instructions. Not all texts are currently online and downloadable, so you may not retrieve all that are listed. Searchable by author and title. Well worth the effort!

Academy of American Poets
The "Find a Poet" section currently includes biographies, photos, and other information on more than 450 poets, and the "Find a Poem" section includes more than twelve hundred poems, with new ones being added. Many are available in audio format as well as text.  See also this similar, but less rich site: Poetry Society of America

American Verse Project
The American Verse Project is an electronic archive of approximately 175 volumes of American verse published prior to 1920. Search features include: Simple, Proximity, Boolean, plus a Word Index. You will find a browsing section if you click on the link: Browse the American Verse Project Texts.

Anthology of Modern American Poetry
A companion to the text, Anthology of Modern American Poetry, published by Oxford University Press. The 161 Poet Companion Sites Section includes  "excerpts from previously published analyses of poems, biographical information, relevant illustrations, manuscripts, drafts of poems, bibliographies, historical background, statements on poetics, interviews, mini-essays on important issues pertinent to the poet, book reviews, archival resources, and study questions."

American & English Poetry: 1250–1920
This superb poetry collection (at Bartleby.Com) contains numerous separate collections of poetry. The collections may be searched by keyword, and browsed via: Indexes to Poems: Chronologic, Author, Title, First Line. Designed to be easy to browse and enjoy, this site seems to be steadily growing.

Day Poems Index by Author
This Web site features a number of poems each day, and also keeps them available for later reading. See also their Poems Index by Title, if you have a title of as poem you want to find.

Favorite Poem Project
Sponsored by America's Poet Laureate at the Library of Congress, Robert Pinsky, this Web site videotapes the experiences of Americans reading and talking about their favorite poems. It is the launchpad for an experience that is aimed at sharing poetry aloud all over the nation. Many of the videos are quite moving, and are highly engaging.

Internet Poetry Archive
Offers selected poems from a number of living poets from around the world. The section for each poet includes audio clips of the poet reading several poems, the poet's comments on the works, a photograph of the poet and any other graphics that would help a reader understand the poem (e.g., a map or illustration of a particular place mentioned in the poem), texts of the poems, a critical biography of the poet prepared by a scholar familiar with the poet's work, and a short bibliography. Poems are presented in their original languages, as well as in English translation.

Lost Poets of the Great War
This is "a hypertext document on the poetry of World War I", made available by Harry Rusche of the English Department, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. Includes a chronology of the war, as well as a brief essay, "The Human Cost".

Poetry 180 (Billy Collins, Poet Laureate)
Former U.S. Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, has designed this site to make it easy for students to hear or read a poem each day of the 180 days of the school year. It has the full text of 180 interesting, well-written poems available for your use! "Poems can inspire and make us think about what it means to be a member of the human race. By just spending a few minutes reading a poem each day, new worlds can be revealed."

Poetry Daily: Poems Arranged By Author Name
A collection of poems by mostly living or contemporary poets, which are selected from literary publications. Poems are arranged according to their author's surnames. Usually only one poem per author is available. Poems are available for one year following their appearance in the Poetry Daily Web site. There is a link from the poem to its original publication.

Poetry Pages From The Atlantic Monthly
Articles, interviews and poems are presented by one of America's greatest literary magazines, The Atlantic Monthly. Included are many modern and historic poems and poets.

Poet's Corner
Poet's Corner, an eclectic mix of poems provided for you to peruse and contemplate. You will find many things here, both obscure and familiar, from well and lesser known poets, from medieval ballads in middle english to poems of the early 20th century. This site is named for a corner of Westminster Abbey where a number of famous English poets are buried.

Representative Poetry Online
This excellent collection of the great poets of the English language includes about 2,500 English poems by 403 poets from Caedmon, in the Old English period, to the work of living poets today. . Poetry has been selected with editorial comments by members of the Department of English at the University of Toronto from 1912 to 1996. Included is an extensive collection of criticism, both in verse and prose forms. The works are indexed by poet, title, date, keyword and first line.

The Shiki Internet Haiku Salon
This project seeks to provide a network forum for introducing to the world the joy of Japan's short poem, Haiku. Their stated hope is that those who see this will develop an appreciation and respect for Haiku, familiarize themselves with it, and, ultimately while enjoying the art form as its practitioners, help to promote international exchange and friendship through Haiku.
