Explains the different styles of popular music, from bluegrass and country to gospel and rock. Includes essays and background information on the styles, performers and other aspects of popular music. Includes a glossary, discographies, and "music maps" which trace the development of various styles, with a nice "decades" listing section.

Performing Arts Collections: American Memory at the Library Of Congress
Many primary source materials are available here, including sheet music, song sheets, sound files and recordings of songs, images and films. They are organized into a number of separate collections, devoted to areas such as: California Gold: Northern California Folk Music from the Thirties;  Dayton C.
