The following is a collection of daily news sources whose extensive archives of stories are available through the use of their own local search engines. Some of these have their "searcher" on the front or archive page, while others have separate search engine pages. Only those that allow access to extensive full-text news archives are included here. Yahoo! offers this place where you can search for daily news using their searcher, or by browsing in subject areas. Items are taken from a variety of news sources, but tend to focus on current dates of publication.
Lycos Top News
Tracks news stories by topic and also allows searching of archives. Nice interface is fun and easy to use.

Search a wide variety of online news sources for news stories and articles.
Opinions, Ideas and Commentary Search
Offers access to newspaper and magazine editorials and columnists. Organized into separate sections for the following categories:  Political & General, Business & Finance, Technology, Sports, Health, and Arts & Leisure.
News Searching Resources
The Web is a rich source for current local, national, and international news. There are a number of search engines which cover multiple news sites and news wires. This section compares those news search engines.

Television News Archives
Since its inception in 1968, the editorial staff of the Vanderbilt University Television NewsArchive have created listings, summaries and descriptions of TV news broadcasts in the collection. This material is in a database that allows you to searchg and browse by date. It also serves as a unique reference tool for studying historical and political events. BBC News World Service
The BBC News Service makes many news stories from Europe and the world available for free. You may also search their past articles archive, dating back to the site's launch in November 1997. Available in 43 languages; many stories and articles are available in audio or video versions. Provided by the British Broadcasting Corporation.
CNN News Searcher
Thorough archives going back several years. Check the box of the specific archive(s) to search to speed your search. See also their News Center.
The Online News Hour
The highly respected news program from public television is on the Web, offering current news and transcript archives of past programs.
USA Today
A national newspaper covering all aspects of Americcan life and culture. Easy to search, especially if a particular section is checked.
The Drudge Report
Contains many links to editorial opinion columnists and other full-text news sources.

College Newspapers

The Daily Californian
From U.C. Berkeley. Searches back through the archives to the summer of 1995.
The Daily Iowan
Search engine for the archives is toward the bottom of the page.Search or browse back issues of The Daily Iowan since Tuesday, January 16, 1996.
The Harvard Crimson
Offers one of the most extensive archives available on any newspaper site, with a full-text, searchable archive dating back to 1900. Eventually, the archive will extend back to 1873. This is a very useful tool which allows users to find articles written by very well-known journalists (David Halberstam, Linda Greenhouse, and others) back in their Harvard days.

Guardian and Observer Archive
One of the major newspapers of Great Britain makes its full text archives available to the public. It is easy to search and retrieve news stories back to September 1, 1998.
