Most of the following poetry sources may be searched or browsed
according to several criteria: keyword, author/poet, title, first line, etc.


Academy of American Poets: Find A Poem
The "Find a Poet" section currently includes biographies, photos, and other information on more than 450 poets, and the "Find a Poem" section includes more than twelve hundred poems, with new ones being added. Many are available in audio format as well as text. Many, but NOT all poets are American. TIP: Search via KEYWORD and/or THEME.

American Verse Project
The American Verse Project is an electronic archive of approximately 175 volumes of American verse published prior to 1920. Search features include: Simple, Proximity, Boolean, plus a Word Index. Poetry Foundation: Category Search/Browse 
Start with an area of interest, then narrow your focus to a certain sub-topic. Provides full text of the poems, plus information about some of the poets. Many, but NOT all poets are American. TIP: Search by narrowing your topic. 

Contemporary American Poetry Archive
Offers selected poems by American poets. Unfortunately, you are unable to search or browse by theme. TIP: The poem's title may give you an idea of the theme.

American & English Poetry: 1250–1920
This superb poetry collection (at Bartleby.Com) contains numerous separate collections of poetry. The collections may be searched by keyword, and browsed via: Indexes to Poems: Chronologic, Author, Title, First Line. Designed to be easy to browse and enjoy, this site seems to be steadily growing. TIP: For American poetry, scroll down the page to an American anthology, click on it, then search just that anthology.

Representative Poetry Online
This excellent collection of the great poets of the English language includes about 2,500 English poems by 403 poets from Caedmon, in the Old English period, to the work of 20th Century poets. Included is an extensive collection of criticism, both in verse and prose forms. The works are indexed by poet, title, date, keyword and first line. Poets are mostly British. TIP: Start by using a keyword search of words in the poems.

This is a collection of poems, one for each day of the year. Unfortunately, you are unable to search or browse by theme.
