Scenes From The Chico High School Library

The following images show different views of the Chico High School Library in action. (1999-2000-2001)
The use of computer based technology is integrated into the Chico High School curriculum. The library program supports this by providing enough computers so that the library staff and teachers who bring their classes here are able to assist and supervise their students. All computers are have appropriate software and and connected to the Internet (54). They are conveniently located throughout the library, so as to be near our book collections. Many of our informational databases are available on the Helpful Bookmarks Web page, and students may access them at home through the use of passwords.

Here is a view looking across the center of the library reading room. The entrance is just to the right of the Career Center doorway that you see in the upper right corner.

Here is a view looking back across the reading room, toward where the picture on the left was taken. It shows the left side of the library, where the fiction and library instruction area is located.

Our reference section behind a pod of computers. We tend to think of this as an electronic reference area. The computers are just some of our tools that we use to help answer reference and other questions.

Here are two students doing research on a project together. In addition to the online sources, they are able to make use of the reference books which are located on the shelves just a few feet away.

Looking across the center of the reading room. In the foreground Ms. Hahn's American Government are students working on a Supreme Court research assignment. In the back Mr. Kincheloe's class browse the Fiction section.

Two classes and many "drop-ins" are able to use the library. The pole in the upper top of this picture is the center of three computer pods that spread outward. To the right is the circulation counter and librarian's desk.

If you stand behind the circulation counter and look toward the right side of the library, this is what you might see.

A view of the Fiction area, showing students browsing books purchased with the library allocation funds.

This is a view of the Fiction area, showing students browsing the new books, while two students on the right use the computer to search the library catalog.

Two students are using the computer projection workstation to show a PowerPoint presentation on a P.E. class fitness research project.
